After many centuries, Awa-odori dance festival became very famous and around 1.3 million people flock to Tokushima for this festival.

The dancers often sing a traditional song while they are dancing.
This is the common phrase of the song:
Odoru ahou ni - - - - The dancers are fools
Miru ahou - - - - The watchers are fools
Onaji ahou nara - - - - Both are fools alike so
Odorana son son - - - - Why not dance?
It's also common to chant sounds (with no meaning) such as Yoi, yoi, yoi, yoi!

Also, the Awa-odori dance is characterized by irregular steps (said to have its origins in the drunken history of the festival). There are two versions of the dance, the night time version is frenzied and energetic.
