Health and Vitality in the Nasu Highlands

Traveling to the renowned Niki Club & Spa resort gives you a chance to sit back, relax and ease into the Niki lifestyle even before you arrive. You take a quiet, comfortable shinkansen bullet train to Nasu Shiobara station, a 75-minute ride from Tokyo. On arrival, a shuttle bus takes you the remaining 30 minute drive to Niki Club & Spa.

Niki Club is situated amid the majestic nature of the highlands around Mt. Nasu, Tochigi Prefecture. The buildings, designed with their own consistent aesthetic, are nestled amid spacious, 42,000-sq.-meter grounds. At Niki, you can enjoy a quality, healthy holiday in a place of relaxation in harmony with nature, at a stylish and open space designed by Sir Terence Conran.

Visiting Niki Club is an eye-opening experience — the resort features some unique and exciting art and design, as well as innovative architectural features in its buildings and venues. One example is the famous Kagami stage, a unique installation which consists of seven huge boulders linked by mirror-finish stainless steel. The result is a unique venue for music and other performances.

There is even a cool treehouse, next to one of the stone pathways that guide guests around the site, between the buildings, dining rooms and activity spots. Reflecting ponds — artistic water installations, really — and beautiful works of contemporary art all find a perfect setting amid the verdant nature of Niki’s grounds.

Niki is a perfect place to experience a relaxed and creative lifestyle in harmony with nature, enjoying the timeless beauty of traditional Japan and the conveniences and comforts of the modern world.

Daily life at Niki Club is anything you want to make of it — relaxing, lounging, walking about exploring the extensive woods, or partaking of whatever activities spark your interest. Creating glass and ceramic art, fishing, playing tennis or birdwatching in the vast forested grounds are just a few of the options available.

Niki has another activity that is unique to this resort — you can wake up a little early and go on a walking tour of the surrounding woods, escorted by our forest concierge. Enjoy the healing power of the forest and inhale deeply the fresh morning air as you explore the grounds and get some in-depth knowledge of the Niki Forest. Then, after a fine and satisfying Western breakfast, you can experience creating glass and ceramic art in the studio at nearby Art Biotope. This is a wonderful creative outlet, and the results will be a perfect souvenir of your stay.

Or you could take a long, hot soak in the rotemburo open-air hot spring baths. Niki Club draws its water from a source that is rich in minerals — sulfur, calcium, magnesium sulfate and bicarbonate. The water is clear and colorless, and highly effective for healing fatigue, muscle pain and neuralgia, as well as making the skin silky smooth. You can relax and wash away your cares in the open air, amid the healthy green of nature and fresh air.

The Nikissimo Spa treatment salon offers a full menu of spa services, including body treatments, facials, reflexology and more.

The food at Niki is a destination in itself, featuring the finest flavors of seasonal ingredients locally produced in the Nasu area. The resort’s main dining room, La Brise, features a unique fusion of Japanese tradition and Western techniques, with an emphasis on fine French cuisine.

This would be a perfect opportunity to try some Japanese wines from Niki’s extensive cellar. If you like, the chefs will create a special dinner to pair perfectly with these unique wines. You might also like to try some of the delicious sake and shochu, a distilled beverage that is very popular in Japan but little-known elsewhere.

The smaller Garden Restaurant features delicious and healthy grilled cuisine prepared with organically grown, pesticide-free vegetables and herbs grown in Niki’s own Kitchen Garden. Eggs and cheese come from local farmers.

Afterward, you can stroll through Niki Club’s vast property. For lunch, why not have a picnic at your favorite spot in the garden. Niki Club can provide a picnic basket filled with special lunch made by our chef, its contents designed to the season.

Otherwise, you could enjoy a special brunch on the terrace after sleeping in as late as you like.

In the evening after dinner, you can spend a romantic time on your private terrace beneath a glorious display of stars, before retiring to your cozy, comfortable room.

There are plenty of day trips available, including Nikko (one of Japan’s most popular tourist destinations) and Mashiko, a town famous for its pottery and home to over 400 pottery makers, as well as hiking, skiing and golf.

After your stay at Niki, you can return to the world with a clear mind and a rejuvenated spirit, and — we hope — a desire to come back again soon.
