Restaurant Tsukushi
Atami Sekaie’s restaurant, Tsukushi, has both interior private dining booths and window tables looking out onto spectacular views of Sagami Bay. Various styles of kaiseki ryori Japanese traditional cuisine are on offer here, all served fresh, delicious and with the artistic flair for which kaiseki is known. Styles include traditional kaiseki, vegetarian kaiseki, and halal-certified kaiseki for Muslim guests. There is also a “fasting” menu (many guests come here for rejuvenating multi-day fasting retreats), which consists of soup and small amounts of food for a few days, then water only.
The cuisine makes full use of the local bounty, as proper kaiseki does, and in this case the emphasis is on local seafood and mountain vegetables. The region’s cuisine has been evolving and developing for millennia, and is as healthy as it is delicious.
You might like to wash down all this fine food with some of the local sake and beer – Atami Beer is a particularly fine micro-brewed pilsner – and renowned sake. Tsukushi also has an extensive cellar stocked with fine wines, sake, shochu and other beverages.
