THE STORY

Discover the meaning of modern Japanese luxury at this boutique resort rich in local character and free of tiresome clichés. Fufu Kawaguchiko marries the impeccable personalized service of a Japanese ryokan with the homey feel of a forest lodge, providing guests with a perfect base to explore the natural beauty of Yamanashi by masterfully blurring the lines between indoors and out.

The 32 attractively furnished suites all feature exquisite views of Mt. Fuji across the glittering waters of Lake Kawaguchiko, a private fresh-air hot spring bath, and floor-to-ceiling glass doors that fully retract to transform the entire room into an open-air veranda. A design ethos rooted in all-natural materials, including local volcanic rock, wood from the trees cleared for the building, and living greenery, reinforce the seamless communion with the environment. Even in winter, heated floors and a personal bioethanol hearth keep you cozy while enjoying the crystal clear panoramas made possible by the drier air.

Downstairs, Restaurant Yamanoha serves playful modern kaiseki course dinners and breakfast, showcasing fine local produce and Yamanashi's famed wines. The tiered seating provides each table with excellent views of Mt. Fuji by day and the illuminated gardens by night. For a pre- or post-prandial, the intimate bar lounge provides comfortable nooks for relaxing under a constellation of lamps or you can enjoy actual starry skies and the aroma of wood smoke around the nightly fire pits in the comfortably appointed terrace and gardens.

Enveloped in nature, nurtured by the soil, surrounded by beauty, this harmonious world is epitome of luxury in today's Japan.

FACILITIES &
SERVICES

  • Spa Our baths use natural alkaline hot spring water rich in minerals said to be particularly good for the skin. While each room has a private hot spring bath, the first floor bathing area provides large gender-segregated hot springs for guests who prefer to bathe together. There are also steam rooms, saunas and a complimentary refreshment stand stocked with snowmelt water, beer and milk, as well as ice pops for the kids.

In addition, Fufu Kawaguchiko is pleased to offer the world's first in-room Spa by Sisley in partnership with the famed Parisian skincare specialists. A full range of luxury face and body treatments are available from trained therapists in the comfort and privacy of your own room.
  • Restaurant Yamanoha Stepping off the elevator to the unexpected sight of soaring flames and the rich aroma of wood smoke from the open kitchen is the first sign that you are in for a delightfully surprising meal. Tiered seating facing a huge floor-to-ceiling window on one wall provides each group with an intimate space to themselves as well as views on the changing seasons in the surrounding gardens and the majestic figure of Mt. Fuji beyond. Decked out in wood, stone and candlelight, the dining room effortlessly blends a rustic charm with a design-savvy elegance that perfectly foreshadows the unexpected combinations of East and West in Chef Hoshino's pitch-perfect modern kaiseki.
  • Cuisine Chef Hoshino prepares modern kaiseki meals that balance tradition and creativity to offer guests a new experience of Japanese culture. Served on a range of beautiful ceramics and lacquerware representing the country's most famous craft-producing regions, the food allows seasonal local produce to shine by casting more far-flung delicacies in supporting roles. The result is a harmony of flavors and textures that feels at once familiar and excitingly new, pleasing to novices and washoku devotees alike. Wine pairings that span from Champagne's best houses to the vineyards next door producing Fufu's original wines add another level of enjoyment to an already stellar production.
  • Bar Open from 5pm each evening, the gorgeous bar lounge beckons with comfortable lodge chairs arranged just so for an intimate tête-à-tête at sunset. Alternately, you can have a chat with the friendly bartender over the polished counter carved from a single piece of Japanese zelkova wood. The glittering surface and the darkened windows reflect the constellation of bulbs hanging above, creating little Milky Ways that mirror the twinkling stars outside. A full range of cocktails, wines, beers and spirits is available, including many standout Japanese sakes and whiskeys. For an aperitif or a nightcap, it's the perfect place to while away a pleasurable moment.
