THE STORY
Discover the meaning of modern Japanese luxury at this boutique resort rich in local character and free of tiresome clichés. Fufu Kawaguchiko marries the impeccable personalized service of a Japanese ryokan with the homey feel of a forest lodge, providing guests with a perfect base to explore the natural beauty of Yamanashi by masterfully blurring the lines between indoors and out.
The 32 attractively furnished suites all feature exquisite views of Mt. Fuji across the glittering waters of Lake Kawaguchiko, a private fresh-air hot spring bath, and floor-to-ceiling glass doors that fully retract to transform the entire room into an open-air veranda. A design ethos rooted in all-natural materials, including local volcanic rock, wood from the trees cleared for the building, and living greenery, reinforce the seamless communion with the environment. Even in winter, heated floors and a personal bioethanol hearth keep you cozy while enjoying the crystal clear panoramas made possible by the drier air.
Downstairs, Restaurant Yamanoha serves playful modern kaiseki course dinners and breakfast, showcasing fine local produce and Yamanashi's famed wines. The tiered seating provides each table with excellent views of Mt. Fuji by day and the illuminated gardens by night. For a pre- or post-prandial, the intimate bar lounge provides comfortable nooks for relaxing under a constellation of lamps or you can enjoy actual starry skies and the aroma of wood smoke around the nightly fire pits in the comfortably appointed terrace and gardens.
Enveloped in nature, nurtured by the soil, surrounded by beauty, this harmonious world is epitome of luxury in today's Japan.
