FACILITIES &
SERVICES

  • Dining Tekisui
Housed in a separate building a short walk through a bamboo grove, Japanese restaurant Tekisui serves innovative Nara kaiseki for breakfast, lunch, teatime, and dinner. It is open to the public for lunch and tea, but uses all private rooms with garden views to retain an atmosphere of secluded luxury. Best enjoyed with a flight of Nara sakes, the menu enlivens local delicacies with inspiration from traditional Chinese medicine to get innovative dishes like Yamatoshi wagyu steaks wrapped in cork tree bark, smoked with persimmon and dong dang gui leaves, and topped with a miso lotus seed sauce. Dark yakisugi walls and dramatic lighting create a magical atmosphere heightened by the occasional deer passing through the garden. The second floor dining area can be converted into an event space accommodating up to 50.
  • Dining Kuri
Housed in the same elegant building as Tekisui, Kuri serves dinnertime teppanyaki, a cuisine prepared before your eyes on a gleaming iron griddle. With just 12 counter seats, this venue provides an intimate experience in which you can engage with the friendly chefs on the finer points of the innovative Chinese medicine concept. A standout in the 9-course meal is Spanish mackerel topped with sansho butter and served on a bed of 13 different grilled vegetables chosen to provide a new flavor and texture with each bite. Excellent wine and sake flights are available, including rare bottles from 300-year-old Nara brewer Yucho Shuzo.
  • Cuisine Kaiseki ryori made with local vegetables, spices, and Japanese herbs. Produce from this land and seasonal ingredients create a flavor unique to Nara. Distinctive meat dishes seasoned with health-giving spices. Experience the carefully selected flavors of Nara along with a live performance.
Dining at Fufu brings hospitality through dishes made from local produce and characteristics of this region. Discover wholesome ingredients and healing plants in Nara, the birthplace of Japanese medicine.
  • Spa The spa features 3 private treatment rooms, including one for couples, and uses products from famed luxury cosmetics brand Sisley. Treatments are tailored to each guest, incorporating the scent of locally grown medicinal herbs and the soothing peals of a handcrafted singing bowl to relax mind and body. The menu includes body, facial, and scalp treatments, as well as a signature herbal bath using a blend of medicinal plants like dong dang gui, cassia, and safflower for pain relief and improved circulation. The private bathing facility includes a beautiful grey-tiled pool and a comfortable lounge area stocked with complimentary Sisley cosmetics, drinks, and yoga equipment for those taking a holistic approach to beauty.
  • Art & Architecture World-famous architect Kengo Kuma drew on Nara's ancient history to create a hotel embodying the architectural principle of teioku ichinyo, a balance between garden and structure. Using elements of the azekura-zukuri style, which is distinguished by joined-log structures of triangular cross-section and built of Yoshino cedar timbers, FUFU Nara added airy walkways, open verandas, and a central garden, blending the lived experience with the surrounding nature.

Inside, the decor is deeply rooted in the locale, providing a tangible connection to local history and culture. Antiques like a priceless Kamakura Era (1185–1333) lamp and an ancient wood panel from one of Kasuga Grand Shrine’s previous incarnations tell a story about the Nara that was. Meanwhile, contemporary handicrafts like pottery vases and delicate hemp screens birthed from the soil and crafted by local masters show what Nara has become.
  • Bar Ren The entrance to this intimate bar is guarded by the twisting trunk of a massive muku tree that stood here before the hotel was built. Under the ghost of its limbs is an atmospheric lounge with just five bar seats at a polished wood counter and three semi-private rooms overlooking the seasonal beauty of the interior garden. Open in the evening and only to staying guests, Ren is the perfect spot to explore Nara's sake, spirits, and beer without having to change out of your yukata. For an aperitif, FUFU Nara's signature cocktail of extra dry ginger ale, lime juice, and a local gin with 59% alcohol is a sublime choice.
