The Hiramatsu Hotels & Resorts Kashikojima's design is an elegant blend of Japanese and Western influences. The elegant, modern interiors are highlighted by high-end prints by the world-famous painter Yayoi Kusama, whose distinctive blend of Japanese and Western sensibility provides a perfect vehicle for establishing the hotel's “East-West hybrid” theme. An extensive collection of serene landscapes by Kaii Higashiyama, the influential 20th century painter, provide a pleasant balance and further deepen the modern Japanese mood.
Entering the ryokan, the guest is struck by the stunning lobby, whose vertical lines accentuate the room's height, giving it a vaulted, cathedral-like feel, and providing a perfect frame to introduce the breathtaking view of Ago Bay.
The ryokan enhances its affinity with nature and celebrates the seasons via ample use of flowers, arranged in beautiful vases made of the distinctive Iga Yaki pottery, one of the specialties of Mie Prefecture.
The rooms all look out over Ago Bay, to the pearl beds that grow world-renowned high-quality products for Mikimoto and other purveyors of fine pearls.
Also, referencing the area's long seagoing heritage is a generous sprinkling of interior elements on a maritime theme, such as ship models, clocks and fishermen's floats.
