THE STORY
Perched high above picturesque Ago Bay, The Hiramatsu Hotels & Resorts Kashikojima commands a view that encompasses the entire expanse of the bay, the little islands and the myriad pretty inlets of the area. This elegant ryokan takes full advantage of the Shima area's scenic beauty, abundant natural gifts and peaceful lifestyle. The concept here is “European Ryokan” – that is, Western-influenced styling, inside and out, with Japanese touches and friendly, premium omotenashi, or traditional Japanese hospitality.
The elegant blend of Japanese and Western influences extend to the modern, simple interior design. High-end prints by renowned international artist Yayoi Kusama, with her distinctive blend of Japanese and Western sensibility, provides the perfect mode for establishing the hotel's hybrid theme. An extensive collection of more traditional images by Kaii Higashiyama provide a nice balance and further deepen the modern Japanese mood.
The rooms all look out over Ago Bay, to the pearl beds that grow world-renowned high-quality products for Mikimoto and other purveyors of fine pearls. Also, referencing the area's long seagoing heritage is a generous sprinkling of interior elements on a maritime theme – ship models, clocks and fishermen's floats. The spa offers Thalasso treatments, which harness the healing properties of seawater to promote physical and spiritual health.
The ryokan is devoted to offering the finest service and attention to every detail to promote the guests' total relaxation.
As you arrive, take a pleasant moment in the lobby or out on the terrace to savor the sweet ocean breezes, with a welcoming drink of the excellent local fruit juice in hand, and ease into the slow and elegant The Hiramatsu Hotels & Resorts Kashikojima pace of life.

SERVICES
-
LOUNGE Lounge The Hiramatsu Hotels & Resorts Kashikojima's Lobby is a bright, airy space with tall windows that bathe the room in light. The terrace gives a panoramic view of the wooded hills on one side and Ago Bay in the distance, and captures the sea breezes that waft up from the bay.
-
BATH Private Bath The main bathing area is a rotemburo open-air bath, its stone tub inset into an infinity pool and accessed by stepping stones. Waterfalls cascade down the walls on either side into the pool, and this, accompanied by the calls of birds in the surrounding woods, results in a lovely audible dimension that combines with the relaxing properties of the warm water into a singular bathing experience.
In the evenings, alcohol lamps are lit around the bath, and their warm flickering light further enhances the feeling of luxurious relaxation.
Guests can reserve the bath for private bathing, 30 minutes at a time, at 5:30 to 10:40 in the morning, and 3:30 to 11:20 in the evening. -
SPA The Thalasso Spa The ryokan's Thalasso Spa offers a full slate of treatments. These include Thalasso seawater therapy, which has remarkable beneficial effects on the whole body, especially the skin, cleansing deeply and making the skin silky and smooth. After these treatments, both mind and spirit emerge feeling thoroughly refreshed.
The Spa also offers aromatherapy, using mostly products from Algologie of France.
The spa has its own pretty infinity pool filled with warm seawater, complete with semi-submerged lounge chairs - a good spot for taking in the view over the bay. One section has a walking pool for physical therapy. -
DINING Private Dining The private dining rooms are spacious yet intimate, with the ryokan’s signature blend of East and West reflected in the interior -- simple structural lines accented with European-style fittings, all enhanced by serene landscape paintings by Kaii Higashiyama.
Distinctive strips of scalloped wood contribute warmth and richness to the atmosphere, and their vertical lines echo the elegant soaring columns of the lobby. -
CUISINE Cuisine This is a Japanese hotel with a European flavor, and The Hiramatsu Hotels & Resorts Kashikojima's cuisine reflects this concept, both literally and figuratively.
There are two dining rooms - one seating 16 diners and another with multiple tables in private booths that seat 2-4 persons.
The Hiramatsu Hotels & Resorts Kashikojima's chefs do amazing things with the local seafood, produce and other ingredients, taking their cues from French influences, and individualizing the food with their own Japanese wit and imagination. Local mushrooms, awabi clams and the famous Ise Ebi (a kind of huge shrimp) are frequent sights on the tables here. -
ART & ARCHITECTURE Art & Architecture The Hiramatsu Hotels & Resorts Kashikojima's design is an elegant blend of Japanese and Western influences.
